Human changes space, space changes human:
Time-space perception of 21st century human

The only living thing that has a consciousness on earth, who is trying to establish and make sense of its existence, is human. Humankind being who perceives and understands the period, establishes life therefore future upon this. The existence of the humankind has an influence on the space personally, as it shapes the habitat. In the beginning, space is only used for the purpose of harboring and security, over time turned into the multifunctional integrated structure, the house; a space where people build themselves, develop, relax and enjoy themselves and express themselves with decoration over time.

Whether at the mountains or in the middle of the metropolis, the home of humankind, the first space on earth; is the space where he feels comfortable, personalized, remembers and keeps his memories, his feelings are more relaxed than those outside. It is the incarnational version of an abstract concept. All living spaces, including the house, all the spaces; shapes according to the soul of time, the socioeconomic structure that the age demands, and the its culture and technological developments. From this point of view, the house is both individual and social. It is the space where historical and social relations are both product and reproduced. On the other hand, it shows a great similarity with time; it is fluid and variable. It shapes its contents according to its shape, as it shapes what is in it. Each individual’s perception of space and time is different. These perceptions differ according to the genetics of person, manner of growth, experience, point of view, physical and psychological characteristics, social status, economic status, anticipations, beliefs and relations with other people. In contrast, the age they are in determines the time-space perception of people and changes them in the direction of general trends.

The humankind, who built the shelter for himself with his own hands, tries to maintain his life in an architecture he has shaped for the time he lived. Human’s perception of space is not only related to the situation he is in; the physical structure of the space, to the light, the temperature, the position, and the time spent in it. As a result of all these two-sided interaction, the person defines the space and positions it in the cognitive world accordingly.

This period’s human perceives and interprets the space and time in which he is in various forms in the direction of the codes of these representations. First of these is the vital time/space perception based on spatial practices. These perceptions shaped by experiences are nurtured from daily life. The second is a fictional perception created by our planners, urban planners, investors, architects, community and environmental engineers, according to the needs of the society and the needs of the times. The last one, apart from fictional and vital, is cognitive, that is abstract. This is actually the image that all our perceptions melt in a pot and create in our minds. Space is established in this relationship between visual perception and imagination, in process right at this point between temporal and situation.
